Ministry Highlight for July 2024: Agape Kids (Tondo)
The Agape Kids program at Oikos Helping Hand is dedicated to nurturing and developing young minds through a holistic approach to education and spiritual growth. The program aims to instill values, provide academic support, and create a sense of community among the children. It focuses on the all-around development of children, ensuring they receive not only academic knowledge but also moral and spiritual guidance. Recently, the Agape Kids celebrated a significant milestone with their “Moving Up” ceremony, transitioning from Agape Kids to Agape Youth. This event marked a joyous occasion where the achievements of the children were recognized, and they were encouraged to continue their journey of growth and learning in the Agape Youth program. The ceremony symbolized the progression and continuous support provided by Oikos Helping Hand, reinforcing the importance of education and community in shaping the future of these young individuals. The purpose of Agape Kids is to create a supportive environment where children can thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually. By offering various programs and activities, Oikos Helping Hand ensures that each child receives the attention and resources needed to succeed in all areas of life. Additionally, the program teaches essential life skills, encourages children to stay away from drugs, and promotes the importance of keeping their bodies pure by avoiding alcohol and cigarettes. It also equips them with the strength to withstand peer pressure, guiding them as they grow into responsible and capable young adults.

Academic Coaching Training
The recent Academic Coaching Training program, held from June 4th to July 1st, 2024, was a resounding success. This comprehensive training initiative aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to support students academically and holistically. The program covered various essential topics, including understanding student needs in the 21st century, strategies for academic support, building self-efficacy and resilience, and mastering executive functioning skills. Participants engaged in interactive sessions and practical exercises designed to translate theory into practice, ensuring they could effectively apply what they learned in real-life scenarios. The training also emphasized the importance of integrating technology in education, preparing participants to guide students in a rapidly evolving educational landscape. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees expressing their appreciation for the valuable insights and practical strategies gained. This training has significantly contributed to enhancing the participants’ ability to act as effective academic coaches, providing a supportive learning environment for students to thrive.
Singapore Embassy’s Deputy Chief Engages with Oikos Helping Hand for Collaborative Development Initiatives
On behalf of Ambassador Constance See of the Singapore Embassy in the Philippines, Mr. Logaventhan Karuppannan, Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor, visited the Oikos Helping Hand Learning Centre on May 17th at 10 am. During the visit, we discussed various collaborative initiatives, including advocacy for poverty alleviation and SDG promotion, capacity building through educational and training programs, and facilitating cross-border collaborations with Singaporean NGOs and institutions.
Building Bridges: Oikos Helping Hand Strengthens Partnerships in the Philippines
The Singaporean committee members of Oikos Helping Hand recently visited the Philippines. This visit marked a significant step in strengthening ties and understanding between the two groups. During their stay, they engaged closely with the local team, exchanging valuable insights and strategies aimed at enhancing community support initiatives. Through collaborative discussions and site visits, they gained firsthand knowledge of the challenges and successes faced by Oikos Helping Hand in the Philippines, reinforcing their commitment to mutual support and educational initiatives. This exchange not only built camaraderie but also highlighted the shared mission of both groups in making a positive impact on vulnerable communities.
